Thorláksmessa (also known as "Þórlaksmessadagur" or "The Mass of St. Thorlákur") is an
Iceland ic holiday celebrated onDecember 23 . Icelanders eat rottenskate and potatoes on this day, and buyChristmas presents. The odor of rotten skate is quite strong.Thorláksmessa is a celebration in honor of Thorlákur Thórhallsson, who was appointed as the patron saint of Iceland in 1985, centuries after his death on December 23, 1193.
