* 1959 – The Chicago, Aurora and Elgin Railroad, commuter railway serving Chicago's western suburbs, ceases operations.

* 2005 – Service is restored on the Alaska Railroad after the Moody Tunnel was closed for three days due to damage when a large forklift loaded on a southbound train struck one of the tunnel's timber supports, causing a partial collapse of the tunnel.
