NECS–Network for European Cinema and Media Studies is a non-profit organization bringing together scholars, archivists, programmers and practitioners. NECS aims are to foster high-level and innovative research in film and media theory, history and practice, to provide a forum for communication, exchange and scholarly debate, to support young and early-career researchers, and to establish film and media studies as a dynamic and important part of the arts and humanities research in Europe. NECS has members throughout the world.
NECS holds an annual conference and maintains an online platform which is accessible for all its members and works both like a professional networking system and a complex database with bibliographical and other scholarly information.
History
NECS was officially founded in 2006 in Berlin. In 2007, a first international conference was held in Vienna (Austria), hosted by the Department for Theatre, Film and Media Studies, University of Vienna. The next conference will be held in Budapest (Hungary) in 2008 and in Lund (Sweden) in 2009.
