- FuhQuake
FuhQuake is a
QuakeWorld engine based onZQuake which is in turn based upon the QuakeWorld source code released byid Software under the GPL license in 1999. FuhQuake was developed and maintained by Australian Quaker Anton 'fuh' Nourai, and was probably the most widely used of all the QuakeWorld engines beforeezQuake emerged. The last version released is 0.31 from 2004.FuhQuake took the core ZQuake engine and added a plethora of visual enhancements which had been initially used in new
Quake source port s (Tenebrae,DarkPlaces ) such as model interpolation,24-bit texture support, static lighting support etc.In addition, a proprietary security module was created which afforded a degree of protection against cheating by reporting when certain key game data elements had been changed by the user. This assured its rapid uptake in official tournaments and leagues.
Further enhancing its popularity, FuhQuake was also offered for download in a package that provided an array of 24-bit replacement game and menu textures that helped to transform the slightly dowdy, aging looking Quake of 1996 into something more befitting the 21st century.
