Herbie or Herb Lovelle (born
1 June 1924 ) is an Americanjazz drummer andsession musician .Lovelle's uncle was drummer
Arthur Herbert . Lovelle began his career withHot Lips Page late in the 1940s, then played in the 1950s withHal Singer ,Johnny Moore 's Three Blazes,Arnett Cobb ,Teddy Wilson , andEarl Hines . He was also house drummer at theSavoy Ballroom inNew York City for much of the 1950s.He began playing more R&B
music later in the 1950s, and soon found himself working as a studio musician, often with Sam "The Man" Taylor. He plays on recordings byBob Dylan ,Pearls Before Swine ,David Blue ,John Denver ,Tom Rush ,B. B. King , andThe Monkees , working well into the 1980s in the studios. He also acted in film andtelevision from the 1980s, including on "Law & Order " (1995–2004). Hisfilm credits include "Bella" (2006).References
