Trowbridge Town

Trowbridge Town

Trowbridge Town Football Club are a Wiltshire based football club and are currently members of the Hellenic Division One West.

Overview

The club first began in 1892 and began as members of the Bristol and District league and were quickly down to the Bristol and District League Division One. The following season they joined the Western League Division One and were promoted to the Western Pro.

The club has been in and around the lower tiers of English non-league football for its existence although records show they have reached the First round proper of the F.A. Cup, where they were beaten 6-1 by Coventry City.

The club sadly closed in 1999 but was quickly reformed and submitted to the Wiltshire League Intermediate Division and they quickly began to progress, sealing promotion to the Wiltshire League Premier Division. The new season brought much smiles as they progressed yet again, this time going up to the Hellenic Division One West, where they currently play. They have finished runners-up twice, once in 2004/05 season and most recently the 2006/07 season.

2008 season

In 2008 Trowbridge lined up once again in the Hellenic league Division One West because of ground standards being too bad to continue up the leagues. The season started with a 2-0 loss to Letcombe but was quickly forgotten as they came from behind a week later to win 4-2 at Clanfield F.C. The season gradually got more frustrating as heavy rain meant Trowbridge went many weeks with no games played, while their rivals continued to score points. A trial game at Hardenhuish Park was played and a possible ground share was available but was disallowed by the Wiltshire F.A. The season looked promising as they caught up on games and points but it was too little too late for the club as they just missed out on a brilliant finish to a disappointing season. The season closed at Wood Marsh on Saturday 26th April 2008 with Trowbridge beating Wooton Basset Town 5-1. This was also the last game for manager Paul Shanley, chairman John Fitchen and secretary Robin Sims. They finished a decent 4th.
