Jahar Dasgupta

Jahar Dasgupta, born in Jamshedpur (Tata Nagar, Jharkhand, India) in 1942 is an artist. He completed his further studies in painting from Shantiniketan Kala Bhavan Biswa Bharati in 1964.

Influences on his work include his teachers Nandalal Bose and Ramkinkar Baij. He is also influenced by the work of Binod Behari Mukherjee.

He was invited as a member of Millennium committee to organize an exhibition and workshop under Biswa Banga Sammelan in 1999. He has participated in KalaMela organized by Lalit Kala Academy and the Democratic Painters and Writers Association. He is Vice President of the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata and a founder member of Sijuti Art Gallery. His work has been featured in the Bengali Magazine "Shatak Ekush", and is the subject of a documentary film, "Bornomoy Jahar", directed by Sandip Ray. Shakti Chatterjee wrote a poem on his sketch on the releasing of a book “Poem on Paintings” in the Silver Jubilee of Painters’ Orchestra, 1994.
