The band's self-titled debut album was released in October 1999. In 2000, Benning left the group to pursue a career as a film director. She was replaced by JD Samson on Le Tigre's second album "Feminist Sweepstakes". Released in October 2001, the album featured highly political lyrics and reached number forty-three on the United States "Billboard" Independent Albums chart.
