Sandepudi is a village in Guntur District in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India.

The village is situated at a distance of 9 km East of Chilakaluripet.

This village was part of Guntur District which was formed in 1859 and was the last village to the south in Guntur Taluk, bordering Narasaraopet Taluk to the west and Bapatla Taluk to the south and east. It was tagged on to Edlapadu Mandal in 1984 when new revenue units of Mandals were formed in place of Taluks.

] , Sandepudi had 508 households and the total population is 1912 (Males:933 and Females:979).

Composition

The caste composition of the main village is mainly by members of the Kamma caste and a large chunk of whom have migrated to urban areas (particularly Hyderabad, Bangalore, Guntur, Chilakaluripet). Fairly good number of people immigrated to countries like United States, Australia and UK. Other castes include Brahmins and Vaisyas ;professional castes like washermen, barbers, milkmen; dalits and others.

Historical Events

In the bygone days, Maddineni Veeraiah got a water tank dug to the west of the village which is serving as the storage point for water supply to the village.

Arekatla and Ganesuni families also had water tanks dug to the North of the village to serve as storage points for the dry crops and the cattle at times of long dry spells and in the summer months.

Alapati Krishnamma Choudary from Gottipadu village, a philanthropist and son-in-law of Bheemineni family got a water tank dug in 1920s to serve as water source for the village. This tank did serve for more than 50 years till water supply scheme with overhead tank was commissioned in late seventies.

Ginjupalli, Vutukuri and Chundi families generously helped built the Rama temple in late 1920s, with the active co-operation of the villagers. During 2001 it was renovated by villagers and families migrated from the village.

During 1955 Kaviraja Grandhalayam (library) was constructed by Danda Venkata Subbaiah in memory of his father Pitchiah.

Ganesuni Venkateswarlu then serpanch of the village strived hard in geting water scheme sanctioned and implementing in early 1970s

Notable people

Several landlords, eminent industrialists, senior public/private sector employees hail from this village including:

1. Chundi Ranga Nayakulu was the first person to migrate from the village to Chilakaluripet looking for opportunities to prosper in tobacco business leaving behind ancestral profession of cultivation. Though he had only elementary education, took interest in the cause of education patronized local elementary school and started Chundi Ranganayakulu college at Ganapavaram near Chilakaluripet in 1967. He further expanded this with the addition of an Engineering College, a Polytechnic and a Post Graduate Centre. 2. Vangala Chalapathi Rao is a versatile poet of this place. His book Ahalya is praised by scholars as a poetic beauty.

3. Chundi Veeraiah was the first graduate (1952) and served as High School Head-master with distinction. Even after retirement, he promoted the cause of education in the village, galvanised those interested in the cause and collected and disbursed to students of local high school on need-cum-merit basis during the last decade.

4. Ganesuni Koteswararao was the first law graduate from the village. He was a successful advocate and pleader at Guntur court.

5. Arekatla Venkateswarlu is the first post graduate (1957) who served in the Central Intelligence in a senior position. He was awarded the President’s police Medal for distinguished Service in 1992.

6. Dr. Alaparthi Lakshmaiah is the first medical graduate who acquired further qualifications from Ireland

7. Maddineedi Veera Raghavaiah was the first engineering graduate.
