Augustus Edwin Mulready

Augustus Edwin Mulready (? - c1886) was an English genre painter, flourishing between 1836 and 1880.

Augustus Edwin was the grandson of genre painter William Mulready (1786-1863), who had married Elizabeth Varley, a landscape painter and sister of the artist John Varley. Before separating, William Mulready and Elizabeth Varley produced a family of sons - Paul Augustus (1805-1864), the father of Augustus Edwin, and the painters William (1805-1878) and Michael (1807-1889). Augustus Edwin was a member of the Cranbrook Colony. His paintings were exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1863-1880. His works usually depicted London street scenes, and included children such as urchins and flower sellers. Mulready's paintings were relatively free of the overt sentiment present in Victorian paintings of the period. His son, also A.E. Mulready (1863-1905), painted in a similar style.
