frozen =Sheldrake Lake is a man-made body of water located in the north-eastern section of New Rochelle in Westchester County,
New York . It has a sturface area of 25acres and formerly served as the water supply for the neighboring Village of Larchmont. The lake is the result of Larchmont Water CompanyDam #2 on the Sheldrake River. The dam, constructed in 1935, ismasonry with a height of convert|31|ft|m and a length of convert|1000|ft|m. The dam has a maximum discharge is convert|987|cuft|m3 per second and drains an area of convert|2.66|sqmi|km2.Today the lake is part of a 60 acre
conservancy , permanently protected from development. It is an important resource for the neighboring communities which offers a unique wildlife habitat and an zone for nature-related study and recreation.
