Rostov State Medical University

Rostov State Medical University (RostSMU) is a medical school in Rostov, Yaroslavl Oblast, Russia. Originally founded as a medical faculty of Donskoi University, the school has been an independent institution since 1931. Approximately 8000 students study at RostSMU annually. The school is a member of the Association of Medical Schools of Europe.

History

Founded in the year 1915 as a Medical faculty of Donskoi University, in 1930 it became an independent medical institute, and now a medical university by itself. From the year 1963 the degree of medicine was conferred to more than 2,500 doctors from 87 countries of the world.

Campus

The University has its own clinic, which has 1000 beds, and apart from this has its bases in the largest city hospitals also, which enables the students to acquire sound practical knowledge and skills. University buildings and clinics are provided with up-to-date equipment, and other modern appliances. There are 63 departments, 27 of them are clinical based in the best clinics of the city, more than 150 research and educational institutions function in RostSMU.

Academic profile

The faculty offers a variety of higher degrees and diplomas, some of which are available to non-medical graduates. Most consist of period of research culminating in the writing of a thesis, but some offer coursework, in which case candidates conclude their candidature by writing a treatise.
