Wild oat

Wild oat

In strictly botanical usage, Wild Oat refers to several species of oat in the genus Avena:
*"Avena barbata" - Slender Wild Oat
*"Avena fatua" - Common Wild Oat
*"Avena sterilis" - Winter Wild Oat

There are many additional meanings derived from the expression "to sow wild oats."
