The JISC Centre for Educational Technology and Interoperability Standards (JISC CETIS) is a
United Kingdom organisation funded byJISC , the Joint Information System Committee of the UK's education funding councils. JISC CETIS is funded and structured in a manner similar to otherJISC services such asUKOLN .JISC CETIS is tasked with contributing to and providing information about learning technology with a particular focus on technical
interoperability standards relevant to education, such as XML Schemas for educational content, learner information (and eportfolio), learning design, assessment, accessibility and enterprise systems.JISC CETIS originally began operation in
1998 as the UK IMS Centre, as in its early days it was primarily an organisation devoted to the development and dissemination of open technical specifications as part of the IMS Global Learning Consortium. It later became known as CETIS, the Centre for Educational Technology Interoperability Standards.Since then, CETIS broadened its remit to work with a range of
standards organizations relevant to the UK education sector.On 1 August 2006, CETIS became a formal JISC service and its name changed to JISC CETIS.
