All but one of the ships lie in the range of DWT|28,000 to DWT|38,000, with the exception of the "Federal Maple" with a capacity of DWT|76,608. Two of the ships are registered in Canada, 11 in Hong Kong, 5 in Barbados, and 4 in the Marshall Islands.

Three of these are over DWT|70,000, 15 more are over DWT|50,000, 2 more are over DWT|40,000, and the rest fall in the range of DWT|17,000 to DWT|37,000. Three of these are registered in Antigua & Barbuda, 7 in the Bahamas, 1 in Croatia, 12 in Cyprus, 5 in Hong Kong, 8 in Liberia, 1 in Malta, 6 in Norway, and 18 in Panama.
Many of the ships in the Fednav fleet are rated for work in ice. They work in locations such as the
Beaufort Sea andBent Horn at latitude 76°77′ north.Røe 2008.] Vessels such as the "Federal Baffin" and "Federal Franklin", for example, have been classified with the Ice Class 1A* notation byDet Norske Veritas . This allows them to work in theCanadian Arctic with the assistance of icebreakers.Fednav vessels operating in the arctic are required to have specially trained ice advisors on board. Ice advisors advise the ship's master in issues such as minimizing ice accretion.
