Andrés Roemer (born July 12 1963) is a Mexican journalist, writer, TV host, political analyst, anchor, philanthropist, intellectual and summa cum laude Graduate. Son of a Veracruzan teacher and an architect and painter, he grew up in Mexico City and has become an opinion leader in political, social, economical and cultural matters.

Early life

He taught history, math,and similar courses for eight years to kids of a poor town in tecamamchalco, he loved to play soccer, and he always achieved first place (academic achievements) in all the schools that he attended.

Biography

Roemer then decided to study other careers, he simultaneously studied two: Law and Economics, both in separate institutions, the first one in what is considered the best university in the country, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and, the second in the most remarcable economics institution in Latin America, the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) and obtained summa cum laude in both.

After finishing his studies he obtained a Fulbright Scholarship in order to study a Masters Degree in Public Administration at Harvard University. At Harvard, he was teacher assistant in the course of Ronald Heifetz. He then made a Doctorate in Public Policy at the Berkeley university, california), obtaining summa cum laude too.

Nowadays he is the president of The Latin American and Caribbean Law and Economy Academy and founder of Poder Civico, a nonprofit organization which goal is to empower citizens to enrich national democracy. He is also the curator of Ideas City and the State of Knowledge, international festivals of brilliant ideas, joining notable intelectuals from around the world. He is the chief editor of the Legal Latinamerican Journal of law and economics. He writes and has written for several journals in Mexico and the United States.

More than 18 books had been written by him, books related to: public policy, law, sociology, crime, happiness, economics, arts, soccer, water, sexual regulations, new public management, terrorism, love, and generation next; this last one about the youth perspective of life and human development in a consumist era. His books and articles have been translated into different languages and has received several awards for the interesting topics focused in.

He has published several articles for foreign magazines, other articles had been written for national magazines specialized in politics. In other media branch, the TV, he directs the news at Mexico's channel 40 and he is host to a a pair of TV Shows he created: "Entre lo Publico y lo Privado" ('Between the Public and the Private'), which gets us to know personalities of the public life from a private point of view and compare it with the public image of themselves; and "Pensar México" ('Thinking about thinking') where different topics are viewed from a deep perspective and analyzed by opinion leaders in several areas, focusing in a different branch of analysis per day; "a show making ourselves think about the way we think", it's motto. Up to now he has produced more than 800 television show editions.

He has served as political adviser to Mexican and Latin American Presidents and has occupied several public charges, specially in the cultural area, in Mexico's Ministry of Culture, for example. He also makes recommendations and revisions to new laws and through civilian groups and citizen nonprofit organizations he participates in government's decisions.

Awards

* Received the summa cum laude honors in every University he studied in.

* Microsoft Corporation in United States, as a recognition, named an award after him: Andres Roemer Award of Law and Economics for the Latin American Intellectual Community (1000 USD per year).

* Harvard University gave him the Don K. Price Award for Commitment to Public Service and Academic Achievement.

* Has been distinguished by the Ford Foundation, Harvard University, ITAM, The Minister of Public Education and CONACYT.

* Through contest he became a Fullbright scholar and he's now promoter for the institution.

* In 1993 he received the award for Academic Achievement by from the President of Mexico.

* He was distinguished with the Ocho Columnas Award on Social Sciences.

*University of Berkeley Boalt Law School Awarded the LatinAmerican Law Economics Prize to Andres Roemer in 2006.
