Nathan clearly looks amused about Lucas’ failure and can’t help but laugh while he is making out with Peyton. Miss Goldielocks isn’t exactly thrilled and they end up fighting, as usual.Meanwhile, Keith asks Karen why she didn’t go supporting Lucas and she admits she can’t go back in that gym. Too many memories. As Hailey pointed out to Keith: “She doesn’t want to see her high school sweetheart slash your brother Dan slash the jerk who abandoned Lucas slash the father of Nathan, the team's star player slash my wrists if I hear this story again”.
Later, Peyton comes back to the - empty - court, where Lucas is still trying (and failing) some hoops. Lucas is not the only one in crisis. Peyton seems unhappy about her whole cheerleader’s activity and her life in general, as well, even though she hides her feelings under a stuck-up way of acting. Anyway, once at home, Peyton receives a phone call. It’s Nathan, who wants to let her know he’s sorry. They make it up.
A new day in Tree Hill. Fresh news from school: Lucas and Nathan got into a fight. When Dan finds out what happened, he asks Nathan to calm down. Unfortunately Nathan doesn’t seem eager to let it go; his resentment hasn’t stopped yet. Meanwhile, Karen is definitely very disappointed in Lucas because of the fight but they eventually make it up as soon as Lucas apologizes to his mother and Karen admits she didn’t go to the match since the whole Dan issue still hurts her. However, at the moment, Lucas has another issue going on his head: he wants to quit the team. He’s afraid that if he really joins the basketball team, he’ll become as bad as his father. While Keith is trying to change Lucas' opinion, someone shows up at Keith’s. Peyton. And she is not pleased Lucas is actually looking at the sketchbook she left in her broken - but fashion - car. Yep, Peyton does not want to show her drawings because “They don’t mean anything to anybody. Do they?”
The new match is always nearer and it turns out that a lot of people wants to hearten Lucas; not only Haley and Karen but also Jack (a teammate of his) and the coach, who urges him to beat his fears. Lucas eventually makes up his mind: quitting days are finally done. After submitting Peyton’s drawings, he enters the playground court, where Karen has just arrived, as well. Lucas lets Peyton know that “Your art matters. It’s what got me here” and she looks at him almost surprised; but someone else is staring at him, Dan Scott; but this time Lucas doesn’t feel fear or uneasiness anymore. The word “Scott” labeled on Lucas’ jersey has fallen down the ground and the match can get started.
