Tsarichina

Tsarichina

Tsarichina is a village in western Bulgaria, located in the Kostinbrod province.

The Tsarichina phenomenon

It became famous in the early 1990s, when the Bulgarian military began digs in the centre of the village. The digs were initially in search of a purported hidden treasure of King Samuil. The project's aim changed because a woman received signals from aliens that the world's first "intelligent" creature was buried under Tsarichina. Even Baba Vanga confirmed that "down there is a creature... not a man, not a woman... a monkey". During the digging of the tunnel leading to the creature, aliens sent messages to the woman that they were coming to see the work that was being done. They also said that there were apparently highly-advanced Bulgarians living around the universe. In addition, at least one UFO was encountered and mass witnessed by army personnel and villagers during the course of the digs.

It was discovered that Bulgarian army had spent as much as about 16 million levs on the "Slava" (translated from Bulgarian: glory) project over 2 years, but the tunnel was finally sealed up due to a number of reasons. There was a danger of a flood, as according to geologists, there was an underground river in the place of where the aliens had said the creature was buried. Moreover the cost of the project did not yield results in the two years of its duration. This coupled with the circumstances of the project's commencement were seen as a military embarrassment. However, no convictions followed.

In late 1992 the Tsarichina project was canceled by the new military minister, and the Tsarichina hole was reluctantly filled up and sealed with concrete. The findings of a 2007 bTV documentary on the Tsarichina project, revealed that most of the military documents and recordings had vanished from the headquarters of the Bulgarian army.
