- Canada Place
Canada Place is a building situated on the
Burrard Inlet waterfront ofVancouver ,British Columbia . It is the home of theVancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre , the Pan Pacific Hotel, Vancouver's World Trade Centre, and the world's first permanentIMAX 3D theatre. It is also the maincruise ship terminal for the region, where most of Vancouver's famous cruises toAlaska originate. It was constructed forExpo 86 as the pavilion forCanada and was the only venue for the fair that was not at the main site on the north shore ofFalse Creek . It can be reached via the SkyTrain line at the nearby Waterfront Station terminus. The striking white sails of the building has made it a prominent landmark for the city, as well as drawing comparisons to theSydney Opera House inSydney, Australia and theDenver International Airport inDenver, Colorado .The structure was expanded in
2001 to accommodate another cruise ship berth. As of 2007, construction is under way on a companion building immediately to the northwest which, like Canada Place, is being built over the water and, when complete, will contain additional Convention Centre facilities as well as serve as the international media centre for the2010 Winter Olympics .See also
