Garrick Médecin

Garrick Médecin (Garrick the Physician) is an 1836 comedy written by J. Bouchardy, printed in the newspaper "Le Monde Dramatique". It was the basis for several other plays including "Sullivan" (1852) and "Le Docteur Robin" (1842) which were respectively adapted into the English plays "David Garrick" (1864) and "Doctor Davy" (1865).

The plot concerns a nobleman, Doney, who grows concerned seeing that his teenage daughter, Anna, prefers the works of Shakespeare to reading religious texts. He contacts the actor David Garrick, through whose work Anna became familiar with Shakespeare, and asks him to "cure" her of this passion.
