Roosevelt Science High School

Roosevelt Science High School is a private science high school located in Marikina City, the Philippines. Founded by Roosevelt College in year 2002, it is the second science high school in Marikina, after the Marikina Science High School. It is a separated subdivision of high school students in the Roosevelt College main campus with a different uniform, curriculum, schedule, and administration from the regular high school.

RCSHS Of 2002-2007

Its original curriculum (2002-2007) was highly enriched with additional Science and Mathematics subjects and Research in all levels. From freshman year to senior year, students were taught about Research, from the basics of creating the first few chapters of a thesis to statistics and conducting the actual experiments.

In Roosevelt College Science High School were professors from top universities with at least masteral's degree, while some had even doctorate's degree, ensuring an enriched learning-experience amongst their respective classes.

"Guided by the mission of producing high school graduates exposed to the signs of the pursuit of academic excellence and adept to the tool subjects needed to finish degrees currently in demand locally and internationally, teaching [was] , therefore, entrusted only to those who [were] currently faculty of well-known universities or colleges."

Controversy and Issues

A Change in Curriculum

From the last Academic Year of 2008-2009, changes were made for the school in the curriculum, schedule, and administration. These changes were made without prior warning to the students of the previous batches, and were announced only after some of the students had already enrolled.

The Changes Made

Research was removed from the first year curriculum and replaced with Drafting. The schedules were remade, compressing more subjects into one day and lessening the time used for each subject. Professors with masteral's degree and Ph.Ds were removed and replaced with fresh graduates.

This created something of an disturbance amongst the original students, some forming a small movement with the cause of straightening out all the confusion. Formal procedures were taken, but almost none were entertained.
