William W. Tait (born 1929) is an emeritus professor of
philosophy at theUniversity of Chicago , where he served as a faculty member from 1972 to 1996, and as department chair from 1981 to 1987.Tait received his B.A. from
Lehigh University in 1952, and his Ph.D. fromYale University in 1958. Prior to teaching at Chicago he held positions atStanford University from 1958 to 1964, theUniversity of Illinois at Chicago from 1965 to 1971, and theUniversity of Aarhus from 1971 to 1972. In 2002 he was elected as aFellow of theAmerican Academy of Arts and Sciences .
