Patrick Joseph Tuohy (1894 – 1930) was an Irish
portrait , narrative, and genre painter.Born in

He was taught byWilliam Orpen and became a professor of painting and a member of theRoyal Hibernian Academy . He became associated with the Republican movement and was selected byJames Joyce to paint his father and other family members. He moved toColumbia, South Carolina in 1927 thereafter settling inNew York and died tragically, committing suicide by gas in 1930.
