Steven Rosenbaum (producer)

Steven Rosenbaum (born 1961) is an American television producer and Filmmaker best known as the creator of "MTV News UNfiltered".

Magnify.net is Rosenbaum's current company, founded to create and evolve a platform that empowers groups of people who share common interests to gather, filter, organize, discuss and share video in a community context on the internet.

Rosenbaum, through his former company CameraPlanet (originally known as BNNtv) has produced prime time television for A&E, Court TV, Animal Planet, MSNBC, The History Channel, TLC, BBC, CBS and CNN.

After producing and distributing the Emmy Award-winning "BROADCAST: New York", Rosenbaum created the series "MTV News UNfiltered" for MTV, an early example of viewer-generated content in broadcast. Rosenbaum's staffers reviewed approximately 2,500 calls per week, sending out small video cameras to chosen subjects so they could film their own stories.

In 1998, Rosenbaum created and funded a video journalism program at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism and founded the BNN Scholarship for Columbia University journalism students.

Rosenbaum directed the documentary feature "7 Days In September", a look at 9/11 and the week after. Rosenbaum also created the CameraPlanet 9/11 Archive, [http://www.cameraplanet.com/archive] an archive of footage from September 11 and its aftermath. Rosenbaum has received 2 Emmy Awards, 6 New York Festival's World Medals, 4 CINE Golden Eagles, and 6 Telly Awards. CameraPlanet holds a large archive of videos from 9/11, mainly consisting of home videos taken by professionals and amateurs in September 2001.

Later television productions included the Animal Planet series Dog Days and VH1's A Night With. He also ventured into HDTV productions, hiring Pulitzer prize winning journalist, Peter Arnett who reported from Afghanistan and Pre-War Iraq as Chief Correspondent. Arnett left CameraPlanet to work with National Geographic. During this time, CameraPlanet also employed Ilario Pantano, who later was falsely accused of premeditated murder after killing two suspected Iraqi insurgents. Pantano has since written the book "Warlord: No Better Friend, No Worse Enemy".
