Baldwin High School is a public high school in the Duval County School District and is located within the Baldwin City limits. The student population is smaller than any other secondary school in Duval County, but a good variety of courses are available.

History

No information was found regarding Baldwin High School prior to 1949, but there was a small school. Florida State Law in 1948 required new school buildings be placed on parcels not less than ten acres in size. As the property under the existing school was not large enough, a site on Mill Street was chosen and a new school costing $50,000 was erected and opened for the 1949-50 school year. A new auditorium was completed in 1950, and enrollment was 365 for grades K-12.

A Music Suite was added in 1964 and Mamie Agnes Jones elementary school was constructed on Orange Avenue for grades K-5. The result was a combined Junior-Senior Baldwin High School, which is still the case today.

In 1967, Baldwin became the first Duval County School to be integrated.

A Community Education program was established in April, 1975 under the direction of Michael Minton.

The first major construction in 20 years occurred in 1984, when a new Media Center, Guidance Suite, and a classroom wing were built.

Beginning in 1990, a new Gymnasium was constructed to replace the 40-year old, outdated structure which was gutted, and a Cafeteria, Band & Choral Suite, Graphic Arts Suite and five additional classrooms were created in the shell of the old gym.

In the fall of 1993, lights were installed on Baldwin's Baseball Field and were operational for the Spring season in 1994.

Construction of a new Football Stadium and track began in 1994 and was completed in time for the first football game in August of that year.

Since then, improvements to the field area have included a new rubberized track, field event areas, a scoreboard, and fencing.

In 1999, the school was completely rewired with Category 6 cable to comply with state requirements. The wiring was required for network and communications, linking classrooms together and to the world via the Internet.
