- Jean Basset
Jean Basset, (c. 1645 –
20 November 1715 ), was a priest inNew France from 1675 until his death.Basset's origins are basically unknown although we know that he arrived from France with a group of other ecclesiastics from the diocese of Lyons and he was ordained later that year. He was a parish priest in a variety of parishes during the remainder of his life. Through a donation of land and a farm to the Congrégation de Notre-Dame and much work by himself and Mother Bourgeoys, he was able to endowing his parish of
Pointe-aux-Trembles with a convent of these sisters.History notes that Basset contributed to his region by carrying out notary work in his region since a recognized notary was not available. He drafted numerous of acts for the the residents and; these acts are still on record in the registries of various notaries.
