Joseph Donovan Ross was a medical doctor and a former provincial level politician from
Alberta ,Canada . He served as a member of theLegislative Assembly of Alberta from 1952 to 1971. He also served as Minister of Health in the Alberta provincial government.Political career
Ross first ran for public office in the 1952 Alberta general election. He finished fifth out of twenty ninth place in the first round of the
Single Transferable Vote . He finished in a four way tie for first place with 6,505 votes to take one of the Edmonton electoral district's seven seats in that election for Social Credit.cite web|url=http://www.abheritage.ca/abpolitics/database/maps_choice.asp?Year=1952&Constit=Edmonton|title=Edmonton election results 1952|publisher=Alberta Heritage|accessdate=2008-04-14] He was re-elected to his second term in the 1955 Alberta general election finishing eleventh out of thirtieth place in the first round. Ross ran in the newly created electoral district of
Strathcona Centre .
