The Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon is an international event held annually on the first Sunday of December in the city of
Singapore . The marathon attracts participants from all over the world with runners from countries such asKenya ,Tanzania , theUnited States , theUnited Kingdom ,France ,Japan ,China and otherEurope an andAsia n countries.It is part of "
The Greatest Race on Earth ", fully sponsored byStandard Chartered Bank [http://www.thegreatestrace.com/therules.html] . The other three legs of this four-marathon race are theHong Kong Marathon , theMumbai Marathon and theNairobi Marathon .In 2007, the event attracted approximately 40,000 participants and with a money purse of US$25,000 for the winner in the 2007 MEN'S OPEN category and LADIES' OPEN winner.
This event has 3 main categories, namely the Mini-Marathon-10 km, Half-Marathon-21 km and the Full Marathon-42.195km.
This race starts early at 5.30 am and it brings runners through the
central business district , turning into theMarina South Park , u-turning back to the city before heading to the east coast where runners can feel the cool morning breeze. Full marathoners will make another u-turn at the east coast area before heading back to the central business district. The humid weather makes this a tough race even for the world's elite runners.The full marathon course record was set by Elijah Mbogo of
