Ivanukite

Ivanukite

Ivanukite is a rare mineral, first found in the Khibinsky Mountains, north of the Arctic Circle in Russia. It has the rare and potentially beneficial property of being able to absorb and retain radioactive materials from a water based solution. However, only a few ounces have been discovered as of yet [ [http://russiatoday.ru/scitech/news/23383 Safe nuclear dump discovered] Russia Today April 12, 2008] . Still there is the need for independent confirmation of the validity of the claim. So far this news was not confirmed in any scientific magazine, e.g. [ [http://canmin.geoscienceworld.org/cgi/content/abstract/45/3/451 The Canadian Mineralogist; June 2007; v. 45; no. 3; p. 451-456] ]
