As a privately held medical staffing company[3], Maxim Healthcare Services was founded in 1988 as MEDCALL Medical Staffing. President Brian Wynne opened the first office in Towson, Maryland, and the following year, Maxim began to expand, opening offices in Orlando, Florida; Springfield, New Jersey; and Silver Spring, Maryland. Maxim Healthcare contains the following subsidiaries: Maxim Healthcare Services [4], Maxim Staffing Solutions [5], Maxim Physician Resources [6], TimeLine Recruiting [7], TravelMax [8], and Centrus Premier Homecare [9].
Under the name MEDCALL, Maxim serviced the nursing home industry almost exclusively at first, but soon began to staff hospitals, clinics, schools, and assisted living facilities as well. This growth continued into 1992, when MEDCALL acquired NSI, a California homecare and staffing company. As MEDCALL continued to expand across the country, trademark issues led to a name change, and in spring 1993, the company became known as Maxim Healthcare Services[10].
Today, Maxim Healthcare Services has three primary service lines, Maxim Homecare, Maxim Health Systems and Maxim Staffing Solutions, which oversee 18 divisions[11]. Maxim offers the following primary services[12]:
Homecare: In-home personal care/ treatment of a variety of ailments by trained personnel.
Non-Medical Care: Provided to seniors and others on an “as needed” basis.
Medical Facility Staffing
Flu & Wellness: For corporate, retail & governmental clients.
Autism and ABA Therapy Services: In home treatment / care provided on a one-to-one basis.
In 2008, Maxim Healthcare received ACHC Accreditation [13]. In 2009, Maxim launched mlife which encouraged community involvement and volunteerism by its employees[14]. In 2011, Maxim announced a major expansion of its compliance program via personnel, processes & software systems. [15][16][17]
In 2011, Maxim entered into agreements with the United States Department of Justice to resolve criminal and civil charges related to fraudulent billings to government healthcare programs. As a result of extensive remedial actions taken by Maxim since 2009, the Company entered into a Deferred Prosecution Agreement with the United States Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey, a Corporate Integrity Agreement with the Office of the Inspector General, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and civil settlement agreements with the United States of America and involved states.
