Wakagi created a prototype version of the story which debuted in Shōnen Sunday 2007 issue 19 and was titled, "Koishiite!? Plot

Katsuragi Keima is known on the net as "The Capturing God" while in real life he’s known as otamegane and he hates all real girls. However he is approached by Elsee, a devil from hell, to help her in catching runaway spirits that hide in people. Apparently the spirits only hide in the hearts of girls and the only way to get the souls out is by making the girl fall in love so the spirit gets forced out. And he’s not allowed to fail or he will lose his head.

Characters

;Keima Katsuragi:While Keima is amazingly talented when it comes to playing dating simulators on his "PFP" (This manga's version of the PSP), he finds flesh-and-blood irritating. He makes a deal with an agent of hell so that he must use his dating simulation skills to "capture" the souls of real women. Keima is also referred to as Otamegane, which is a combination of the words Otaku and Megane, by most of his schoolmates. Interestingly, when Keima takes off his glasses, and smiles, Keima looks somewhat feminine. So far, he has captured four spirits, though the girls' memories had to be wiped (It is unknown whether Kanon's memories are wiped, although they probably are). However, they still seem to retain their crushes on him. He makes good grades in school even due to the fact that he plays games during class.: ;Elsee:A girl in charge of cleaning hell, she is rarely seen without her broom. Due to Keima's actions she follows him into our world. Elsee also has a robe that she uses to change form or fly with and it helps Keima with setting up his perfect scenario when trying to make girls fall in love with him. It is hinted that Elsee may have feelings for Keima, who she calls "Kami-sama" or "Kami-niisama" ("God" or "God Brother"). This is shown when she reacted irregular to Keima's "confession" in chapter 3. But this could be because it was so sudden. In order to fit in the human world, she pretends to be Keima's sister (this in turn has made the boys interested in Keima's "sister" and Keima's mother divorce her husband over his "illegitimate child").

=Minor Characters=

;Keima's mother:Keima's mother seems like the typical shoujo mother; optomistic, ditzy and overall loving. But when she's angry, she removes her glasses and lets her hair is down, and changes personalities completely. Keima claims she used to be a part of some biker gang.;Dokurou Skull:Hell's counter measures branch chief. He is the one who assigns Elsie to capture spirits in the human world and sends Keima Katsuragi the contract letter.

Girls

: ;Ayumi Takahara:A girl in Keima's class, Ayumi's a member of the school's track team. However, recently, something seems to be a bit off as of late. Keima discovers her problem and makes her fall in love with him. Her memories have been erased of that time after Elsie captured the spirit, though her feelings for Keima remain, much to her own confusion. The two are often paired up for cleaning duty together. In a small omake at the end of chapter 14, it's been shown that she is more eager to be around him.

: ;Mio Aoyama:A girl in Keima's school, Mio is your stereotypical spoilt rich girl. But she's hiding a big secret which Keima and Elsie must use to their advantage. She falls in love with Keima after going to a party with him. Like Ayumi, her memories were erased, but she always watches Keima, blushing as she does so.

: ;Kanon Nishihara:A recently popular idol, Kanon is actually in Keima and Elsie's class and has only recently returned. She may be a popular idol but her insecurities are all too clear...in the form of a stun gun?! She and Keima eventually become friends, and through that she falls in love with him. She hasn't appeared of late, so it is unknown how she feels towards Keima.

: ;Shiori Shiomiya:A quiet girl who loves books but can not talk to others easily. Keima slowly gained her attention, by saying that books are useless. He finally got her to start speaking a bit after doodling in books twice (once in a library book, and the other in his own book). When Shiori found out that 3000 books were going to be disposed, she locked herself in the library. However, after Keima forces the spirit out of her, she finally regains the ability to talk.

;Kusunoki Kasuga :A 3rd year student at Keima's High School. She 18 years old and studies kasuga style kempo founded by her father. She hates weakness and, on the outside, despises cute things but secretly loves them. She is the fifth girl with a spirit that Keima must capture.
