mascot s of theFlorida State Seminoles from 1958 to 1972. Originally introduced at the FSU homecoming event, PowWow in 1958 Sammy was portrayed by a Florida State undergraduate students during the school years. In 1972 Sammy Seminole was retired at the request of theSeminole Tribe of Florida.The university's basketball mascot at the time was called

Chief Osceola and Renegade were added as the university's new mascots/symbols.In 1978, student Jack Kidder made his way onto the football field upon his horse. The symbol ofChief Osceola and Renegade grew into an iconic tradition supported by theSeminole Tribe .
