Edward "Ed" Burke (January 13, 1909,
Fulton, Ohio - April 19, 1988,East Elmhurst, New York ) was an Americanjazz musician.Burke was adept at both
violin andtrombone , and played both professionally in jazz bands. He worked withWalter Barnes late in the 1920s, then withCassino Simpson andEd Carry in the early 1930s. He worked withKenneth Anderson in 1934 before joiningErskine Tate 's band through the end of 1935. Following a stint withHorace Henderson , he joinedEarl Hines 's band in 1938.In the 1940s he played with
Walter Fuller andColeman Hawkins , and later in the decade withDuke Ellington andCootie Williams . In the early 1950s he joinedCab Calloway 's band, then worked withBuddy Johnson a few years later.In the 1960s and 1970s Burke essentially went into retirement, though he occasionally played with musicians such as
Lem Johnson andWally Edwards .References
