Not to be confused with the larger village of Compton near Guildford, just 9 miles to the east, this Compton is a small hamlet a little over one mile east of Farnham, Surrey, U.K.

Compton has given its name to the local roads Compton Way and Old Compton Lane, and is notable as the home of Moor Park House, the former mansion of Sir William Temple, where Jonathan Swift, author of Gulliver's Travels lived and worked. The house, dating from 1307, was previously named Compton Hall. Compton Woods is an area of woodland with public access and the hamlet is served by the tiny and attractive St Mary's Church (Church of England) within the parish of Farnham. It is built from local ironstone [personal knowledge ~~~~] .

Within a short walking distance are the ruins of the Cistercian Waverley Abbey and Mother Ludlam's Cave.
