Latvia has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest eight times, debuting in 2000 (see ESC2000). The country has competed every year since, winning in 2002 (see ESC2002) with the song "I Wanna" by Marie N.
Latvia broadcasts the contest on LTV1.
In August 2008, the three Baltic countries all considered boycotting the 2009 contest to be held in Moscow because of Russia's actions in the 2008 South Ossetia war. However, on August 26 2008, Latvia confirmed that they would participate in the contest and not boycott.
