Grace Pearl Ingalls Dow (May 23, 1877–November 10, 1941) was born in Burr Oak, Iowa as the fifth and last child of Caroline and Charles Ingalls. She was the youngest sister of Laura Ingalls Wilder known for her "Little House on the Prairie" books.

Grace trained as a schoolteacher, and taught in Manchester, South Dakota, a town just west of her own De Smet, South Dakota. On October 16, 1901, she married Nathan William Dow in the parlor of her parent's home in De Smet, but Grace and Nathan did not have children. Besides being a farm wife, Grace also dabbled in journalism like her older sister Laura, acting as a "stringer" for several local newspapers later in her life. After her parents' deaths, she took care of her eldest sister Mary, who was blind. [http://www.biblio.com/authors/591/Laura_Ingalls_Wilder_Biography.html Laura: The Life of Laura Ingalls Wilder] Grace died of complications from diabetes in Manchester, South Dakota on November 10, 1941, the age of 64. Diabetes ran in her family, her sisters Laura and Carrie both eventually dying of complications of the disease, though Grace, who was somewhat overweight all of her adult life was the first to succumb to the ailment, predeceasing her two older sisters. Grace was buried at De Smet Cemetery.

In the media

In the "Little House" television programs, Grace was portrayed by Wendi and Brenda Turnbaugh (1978–82) and Courtnie Bull and Lyndee Probst (1997).
