Bolivia in 1903. No specimens have been seen or collected since. Two of the specimens now reside in theNaturhistorisches Museum inVienna . The other two specimens are in theStaatliches Museum fur Tierkunde inDresden .There are many species of Flies known from an unique specimen. what makes the four "Eurychoromyia mallea" so special is that they are the sole representative of a family group.
They are 5 mm in length, and the head is 2.5 mm wide, they are shiny, peach-brown insects. No immature stages, or male specimens are known.
