The band was formed in 1987, but due to the band's members' army obligations, they managed to get media's attention in 1990. The band consisted of numerous musicians: Aleksandar Eraković (vocals), Dejan Pejović, Dejan Petrović, Dušan Varda (backing vocals), Dušan Pavlović (guitar), Dejan Jovanović (bass guitar), Goran Redžepi (drums), Borko Borac (saxophone) and Dejan Tomović (keyboard).
They released their debut album "
Rama lama ding dong " in 1991. Title track was a cover ofThe Edsels ' song "Rama Lama Ding Dong". The album was mostlydoo-wop -oriented, and brought hits "Malena", "Hajde, hajde", "Ove noći", "Sve što želim to su sni". Album featured a cover ofCarlo and The Belmonts ' song "Little Orphan Girl" (Vampiri version titled "San letnje noći"). Guitarist Branko Potonjak, keyboardist Sloba Marković and saxophone playerJova Maljoković made a guest appearance on the album. The band soon became popular among teenage girls, and performed as an opening band onVaya Con Dios concert inSava Centar . In the spring of 1991 they appeared at Belgrade spring festival performing a cover ofĐorđe Marjanović 's song "Beograde". With song "Meni njena ljubav treba" they won the first place atMESAM festival. Their second album "Tačno u ponoć " ("High Midnight") brought similar sound as the first one. In 1993 they wrote music forSrđan Dragojević 's movie "We Are Not Angels ". Four songs used in the movie were released on the album "Be-be " ("Ba-bies"). Album also featured song "Ding ding dong" which won second place atJugovizija music festival.In 1995 they released "
Plavi grad " ("Blue city") in the new lineup: Aleksandar Eraković (vocals), Dejan Tomović (keyboard), Dragan Novaković (bass guitar), Saša Petrov (guitar) and Srđan Milenković (drums). Album featured hits "Plavi grad", "Stari voz", "Neću" and "Ona i ja" (cover ofThe Searchers ' "Needles and Pins"). Former Vampiri members Dejan Pejović and Goran Redžepi formedFamilija with formerU Škripcu members.In 1997 the band released album "
Monkey food ". With this album band moved towards more diverse genres of rock. The title track was a cover ofSpencer Davis Group song "I'm a Man". Vampiri released "Monkey food" with Jožef Pisanović (guitar), Srđan Jovanović (drums) and Saša Filićić (bass guitar) as the new members. Soon afterwards Vampiri disbaned.Discography
