West Orlando News

The "West Orlando News" is a free community newspaper that covers Orlando, Florida's West Side. It was established in 2005 under the name "The Pine Hills News". In 2007, it changed its name to "West Orlando News". The newspaper is published twice monthly, and covers local news, politics, and entertainment.

The first issue was printed September 8, 2005 and consisted of 12 pages, in black and white with a press run of 2,500 copies. The paper was distributed throughout the Pine Hills area, with some copies making their downtown Orlando to the city's urban core.

Quickly taking a stand on local issues, the newspaper chose a controversial, almost argumentative perspective and immediately identified with the West Orlando's urban poor and upwardly mobile alike.

Along the way the paper has made friends and allies within the Orlando African American community and has been considered a maverick when compared to other area minority publications.
