Blue Boy (DJ)

"This article is about the DJ. For the similarly named indie band famous at around the same time see Blueboy (band)."

Blue Boy is a pseudonym for Scottish DJ Lex Blackmore. He is best known for "Remember me", an international dance hit in 1997. Blackmore first worked as a DJ in Glasgow and London, touring with British techno outfit The Shamen in 1992. After having worked under various guises, Blackmore established the Blue Boy name in 1995 with the single "Ascension", followed by the four-track EP "Scattered Emotions".

Remember Me

In 1997 Blue Boy had his first (and only) major hit single with "Remember Me". The track surfaced on the compilation album "Mushroom Jazz Volume One", a remix album by Mark Farina. Jive Records picked up the track for a single release. The Radio Edit of the track was remixed by producers team Sure Is Pure.

The track is built around a sample of "Woman of the ghetto", an obscure 1970s song by soul singer Marlena Shaw. The original song was a long narrative in which a female prostitute tells about her life on the streets of a large American city. At the end of the song, she confronts one of her male clients with the line: "Remember me? I'm the whore who has your babies, I". This line was repeated throughout on "Remember me".

Other Releases

After the success of Remember Me, later in 1997 a single "Sandman" was released, although was not successful. The single appeared on the compilation DanceNet Volume 3 along with Remember Me.
