botanist who collected plants in bothGuatemala andCosta Rica . He was the first director of the National Herbarium ofCosta Rica , which was founded in 1887. Together withHenri Pittier he published 'Primitae Florae Costaricensis' and 'Herborizations au Costa Rica'.Honours and namesakes
