Eric Nicholas Vitaliano (born on
February 27 ,1948 inStaten Island, New York ) is afederal judge for theUnited States District Court for the Eastern District of New York .Judge Vitaliano received a B.A. from
Fordham College in1968 and aJ.D. from theNew York University School of Law in1971 . After law school, Vitaliano clerked forUnited States District Judge Mark A. Constantino of theEastern District of New York , and worked for seven years for the prestigiousManhattan law firm ofSimpson Thacher & Bartlett . From1979 to1981 he served as Chief of Staff to CongressmanJohn M. Murphy .He was elected to the
New York State Assembly in1982 and represented the 59th and 60th Assembly Districts in Staten Island from1983 until2001 , when he was elected to serve as a judge of the Civil Court. In2004 he became a State Supreme Court justice, and in2005 he was recommended to the Eastern District bench by SenatorCharles Schumer . He was offically nominated to the court by PresidentGeorge W. Bush onOctober 6 ,2005 , to a seat vacated byArthur D. Spatt , confirmed by the Senate onDecember 21 ,2005 , and received his commission onJanuary 19 ,2006 .External links
