- Heřmanice (Ostrava)
Heřmanice ( _pl. Hermanice, _de. Herzmanitz) is a part of the city of
Ostrava ,Moravian-Silesian Region in theCzech Republic . Administratively it is a part of the district ofSlezská Ostrava .It lies in the historical region of Těšín Silesia and was first mentioned in a written document in
1305 as "Hermanni villa". [Hosák et al 1970, 253.] After heavy industrialization ofOstrava majority of local people was employed in nearby factories. Heřmanice was formerly an independent municipality, in 1941 it became a part of Ostrava.According to the Austrian census of 1910 the village had 3,727 inhabitants, 3,608 of whom had permanent residence there. Census asked people for their native language, 2,800 (77.6%) were Czech-speaking and 776 (21.5%) were Polish-speaking. Most populous religious groups were
Roman Catholics with 3,600 (96.6%) andProtestants with 105 (2.8%).
