The Regional Council of Basilicata ("Consiglio Regionale del Basilicata") is composed of 35 members. The Council is elected for a five-year term, but, if the President suffers a vote of no confidence, resigns or dies, under the "simul stabunt vel simul cadent" prevision (introduced in
1999 ), also the Council will be dissolved and there will be a fresh election. Last regional election
Due to some legal issues with the presentation of the list of
Social Alternative , Basilicata did not vote along with the other Italian regions in the 3-4 April 2005 regional elections, but a couple of weeks later instead, on 17-18 April 2005 . The victory of The Union coalition, which obtained mor ethan 2/3 of the vote, was the largest in Italy andVito De Filippo (DL) was elected President by a landslide.Other elections
