Harijs Balcers

Harijs Balcers

Harijs Balcers was a Latvian footballer, a two time champion of Latvia in the 1960s.

Balcers was the son of famous Liepāja basketball player Lilija Balcere and Olimpija Liepāja sportsman Harijs Lēvenšteins. He started his football career during military service in Riga playing with ASK Riga and winning two Latvian top league titles in 1961 and 1962. In 1963 he returned to his native Liepāja where he joined LMR Liepāja and won the Latvian Football Cup in 1963. Soon after that the club was disqualified for disciplinary reasons and so were its players including Balcers.

As he wasn't allowed to play in the top league in 1964 Balcers played only in local tournaments in Liepāja but in 1965 he moved to Aizpute and joined Kurzeme Aizpute - a club that was playing its second season in the top Latvian league. After retiring from football Balcers worked in the LMR factory in Liepāja. He died in 2002 [ [http://www.kurzemes-vards.lv/?doc=45558 Years after sports] (Latvian)] .
