research institute that focuses on advancing modeling andsimulation technology and increasing our understanding of simulation's role in training and education. It is located at 3100 Technology Pkwy, Orlando, FL 32826Founded in
1982 as a research unit of theUniversity of Central Florida and reporting directly to the Vice President for Research, the institute provides a wide range of research and information services for the modeling, simulation and training community. Faculty and staff are distributed among IST's threeCentral Florida Research Park buildings, the Progress building , Partnership II and the Simulation and Training Technology Center. The Institute also offers masters degrees in:
*Quantitative Aspects of Simulation
*Simulation Infrastructure
*Simulation Management
*Computer Visualization in M&S
*Simulation Modeling and Analysis
*Interactive Simulation/Intelligent Systems
*Human Systems in M&SIST Bennet Building
The IST Progress building at 3280 Progress Drive houses classrooms, laboratories and some administrative offices.
Partnership II
The five-story Partnership II building is located adjacent to Naval Support Activity Orlando (NSA Orlando) and the
Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAVAIR TSD). Partnership II is home to IST administrative headquarters and administrative and research staff. Other tenants include theUS Marine Corps Program Manager for Training Systems (PMTRASYS), the US Army's Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEOSTRI), and the UCF Advanced Distributed Learning and Team Performance laboratories.TTC
The Sergeant First Class Paul Ray Smith Simulation and Training Technology Center houses elements of the
US Army Research, Development and Engineering Command (RDECOM); a UCF incubator company and two IST simulation labs connected with US Army research.Degrees
UCF offers interdisciplinary graduate studies in modeling and
simulation leading to master's and PhD degrees. The program provides students with a core body of knowledge in the fundamentals of modeling and simulation including discrete and continuous simulation, quantitative aspects of M&S, andhuman factors .M&S students should have a baccalaureate degree or previous graduate degree in such fields as
engineering ,psychology ,computer science , ormathematics .Once enrolled, students pick from any one of seven focus areas:
*Quantitative Aspects of Simulation
*Simulation Infrastructure
*Simulation Management
*Computer Visualization in M&S
*Simulation Modeling and Analysis
*Interactive Simulation/Intelligent Systems
*Human Systems in M&SCore courses are supplemented by electives chosen by the student in consultation with his/her advisor and approved by the M&S faculty.
Students interested in graduate study in simulation at UCF have five programs from which to choose.
Interdisciplinary M.S. and Ph.D. programs in Modeling & Simulation are jointly administered by the College of Engineering and Computer Science and by the College of Arts and Sciences.
Information about these programs, as well as contact information for each program, may be found at the Office of Graduate Studies webpage under “Industrial Engineering” and “Modeling and Simulation,” respectively.
