History
Crispers was founded in South Lakeland, Florida in 1989 by Bill Whitaker and his wife, Vanessa[2][3]. Previously a Darden Restaurants brand, it is now owned by Publix Supermarkets, who had begun investing monetary resources in 2004, & had acquired the chain from Darden in 2007.[4] On June 11, 2008, the parent company of Crispers—Publix Supermarkets, the nation's eighth largest private company [5] -- employed a new chief executive(Ron Fuller).[6] On May 10, 2011, Publix announced they had reached a deal to sell Crispers to Fresh Alternatives, LLC.
Locations
As of 2011, Crispers has 29 restaurants throughout Florida residing in Bartow, Bradenton, Clermont, Eustis, Fort Myers, Gainesville, Jacksonville, Lake Mary, Lakeland, Largo, Longwood, Naples, Ocala, Orlando, St. Augustine, Tallahassee, Tampa, The Villages, Vero Beach, Viera (Melbourne), Winter Haven,and Winter Park.[7]
