- Władysław Ślebodziński
Władysław Ślebodziński (b.
February 6 ,1884 inPysznica -January 3 ,1972 inWrocław ,Poland ) was a Polishmathematician .Władysław was educated at the
Jagiellonian University inKraków and then lectured at the Poznań University. During theSecond World War he lectured at the underground universities for which he was imprisoned, surviving the Auschwitz, Gross-Rosen andNordhausen concentration camp s.In 1945 he became professor at the
Wrocław University , and from 1951 he was professor at thePoznań University of Technology . WithBronisław Knaster ,Edward Marczewski andHugo Steinhaus he was a co-founder of the mathematical journalColloquium Mathematicum .From 1949 until 1960 he was a member of the Institute of Mathematics of the
Polish Academy of Sciences .Interest:
Differential geometry . He introduced a definition of theLie derivative .Doctor honoris causa of the Poznań University of Technology, Wrocław University of Technology and of the Wrocław University. A honorary member of the
