Marie-Thérèse de France was the fourth child and third daughter of
Louis XIV and his Queen Marie-Thérèse d'Autriche. As a daughter of the king, she was aFille de France . At court, as the eldest surviving daughter of the king, she was known by the traditional honorific of "Madame Royale ".Life
She was also known as "La Petite Madame" in order to distinguish her from her aunts, the wives of her uncle "Monsieur", who were known as the first "Madame" (died 1670) and the second "Madame" (died 1722). Marie-Therèse was born
January 2 ,1667 at theChâteau de Saint-Germain-en-Laye and diedMarch 1 ,1672 also at theChâteau de Saint-Germain-en-Laye . Her parents had her baptised in thePalais du Louvre in 1668. She was said to have been adored by her parents and her mother had wanted her to become the queen of her nativeSpain .
