Shondesh

Shondesh

Shondesh is a light dessert that is made to eat as a snack in the Bangledeshi culture.

Ingredients

*2.5 cups of cornflour
*0.5 cups of rice flour
*2.0 cups of sugar
*3.0 cups of water

Preparation

Put all the ingredients together in a bowl. Mix everything accordingly to make a thick batter but not too thick. Usually more sugar can be added if more sweetness is desired. If making larger quantity always have five times as much cornflour as rice flour to keep the batter together. After the batter is mixed take a quarter cup of batter and pour into a pan with oil. Then put as many pieces you can fit inside the pan, but keep in mind the pieces have to be submerged under the oil in order to cook properly. Cook for about ten minutes and then let it cool for two minutes to really get a great taste out of them.

Consumption customs

Shondesh is most often eaten when guest come over, usually eaten at festivals(village), or sold at the bakery.
